I propose there shall be two pies from each chef.1) your most awesome pie 2) a pie that shares an unusual ingredient (you must each use "Orange Peels" or "Rum" or some such) 2 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Just a suggestion -- three max (each, that is) -- keep in mind that each pie costs us roughly $20-30 to make. I'd love to have categories/requirements like: one fruit, one cream/custard and one "baker's choice" signature pie

If this contest derived from @brownautogal then I think Apple Pie should be in there... 1) Your signature dish, 2) Apple Pie, 3) Unusual Ingredient0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I propose there shall be two pies from each chef. Two pies sounds pretty reasonable, especially because of the costs involved. I definitely think #1 ("your most awesome pie") is a great idea. But I also think we need a field-leveler: both must also bake the same kind of pie. Perhaps a third pie, if warranted, could be the unusual ingredient pie? 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Number of pies may impact how the winner is decided. Will each category of pie be judged separately, and/or will there be one overall winner? If the latter, three pies might decide a potential tiebreaker. Also, I don't like the idea of this being cost-prohibitive for participants... Is there a way of fundraising to offset the price of ingredients? 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I LOVE this discussion.. & too agree that (2) pies would suffice:1) Your Most Awesome Pie/Bakers Choice 2) A Traditional Apple Pie Winners can be announced on the RADIO at our Memorial Day Tent Event. :-)?????? 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

This is Brian. What about instead of Apple we went with a fruit pie? The downside is that it's not exactly levelling the playing field. On the plus side, it gives us better options for seasonal fruits, while still allowing the possibility of apple.

I like the idea of a fruit pie rather than making it specifically apple. How would the contestants feel about setting the type of fruit early, so that the fruit pie truly could be the field leveler?

"Steve here. Works for me, with early declaration of fruit. ""Steve here. Works for me, with early declaration of fruit. " OK, then. Is this the time to DECLARE THE FRUIT (if ever there was a euphemism . . . ) I am good with the fruit vs. apple plus one most awesome/baker's choice for a total of two. My fruit? Blueberry. (If I can have two fruits in one pie, blueberry and raspberry) -- Or should I just say BERRY? Bah. I will have one fruit pie, one OTHER pie. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I think Berry is a fine pie idea. I declare Berry as well. That should be equalizing enough for the judges.
